Persistence of diabetes can cause serious medical conditions such as retinal damage, cardiovascular disease and chronic renal failure. "Pain in the neck- Rotate it the Yoga way!"
Spondylosis

Spondylosis refers to a situation where there is deterioration of the spine. This disorder may cause loss of normal spinal structure and its function. It could describe degeneration in the neck which is termed as the cervical Spondylosis or degeneration in the lower back which is lumbar Spondylosis. Spondylosis is not life threatening, but in some cases it can lead to nerve damage that can be devastating.

Deterioration of the spine is most commonly caused by normal wear and tear, which is the reason why it is far more common in the age of 60 to have symptoms of Spondylosis. However, deterioration can begin as early as at the age of 30 and there are many cases of lumbar symptoms appearing by the age 40. This degeneration can be related with several other phenomena, such as spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis of the spinal joints, or degenerative disc disease, in which the disc dries out or dehydrates and loses functionality.

The Causes

The most frequent cause of Spondylosis is a natural degeneration of the cartilage and bones of the spine as a result of excessive erosion, which is almost a natural result of aging. Most common causes of Spondylosis include:

  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Wear and tear with aging
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Severe arthritis

The Symptoms

You may experience Spondylosis symptoms daily or just once in a while. At times any of the following symptoms can be severe:

  • Headache (especially with cervical Spondylosis)
  • Sciatica
  • Muscle spasms
  • Back or neck pain that may or may not radiate to the limbs
  • Neck pain and stiffness (in cervical Spondylosis)
  • Nerve problems that cause pain, numbness or tingling in the arms, shoulders or legs
  • Herniated disc

Following are the symptoms that might indicate a serious condition:

  • Impaired balance and coordination
  • Muscle weakness in the arms or legs
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Abnormal sensations, numbness, or weakness on one side of the body
  • Loss of sensation in the arms, shoulders or legs
The Cure

Spondylosis is not curable, but in many cases the symptoms may reduce or even-out on their own. Treatment is meant to relieve the pain and help you to take part in as many of your regular activities as possible, and occasionally surgical treatment may be required to prevent permanent nerve or spinal cord damage. You may even be prescribed a round of physical therapy or a short course of a painkiller or muscle relaxant. Yoga is one of the best solutions that can help people deal better with Spondylosis. It has shown proven improvements in the Spondylosis patients.

Yoga The Cure for Arthritis at World Yoga Society

If you find out that you have an inflexible neck, then precise yoga exercises will help strengthen your muscles and increase flexibility in the neck. Some of the most common poses that can be included in a yoga for cervical Spondylosis routine are Setubandhasana, Pavana Mukhtasana, Ardha Halasana, whereas for lumbar Spondylosis, Surya Namaskar A and B, are good for back strengthening and flexibility. The cobra pose, or Bhujangasana, stretches the lower back while the locust pose, or Shalabhasana, reinforces the lower back because it requires lifting one's upper and lower body off the ground from a flat position on the floor.

"Practice Yoga for joining those joints"
Arthritis

Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints, the area where two bones meet. Most common complaint by the Arthritis patients is the joint pain which is referred to as arthralgia. This pain from arthritis occurs due to inflammation that occurs around the joint, daily corrosion of joint, damage to the joint from disease, muscle strains caused by forceful movements against stiff, painful joints and fatigue.

There are over 100 different types of Arthritis and the number is growing further. The types range from those related to wear and tear of cartilage to those associated with inflammation resulting from an overactive immune system. The most common forms are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a result of strain to the joint, infection of the joint or age and Rheumatoid Arthritis is caused by joint infection.

Osteoarthritis occurs more commonly as we age. Before age 45, osteoarthritis occurs more often in males. After 55 years of age, it occurs more often in females. Osteoarthritis usually affects hands, feet, spine, and large weight-bearing joints, such as the hips and knees. Rheumatoid arthritis can affect people of all ages. Damage to joints can occur early and does not associate with the severity of symptoms.

The Causes

Arthritis engages the breakdown of cartilage. Cartilage normally protects a joint, allowing it to move efficiently. Cartilage also absorbs shock when pressure is placed on the joint, such as when you walk and run. Without the standard amount of cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling and inflexibility. Joint inflammation may result from:

  • Broken bone
  • An autoimmune disease
  • Infection, usually by bacteria or virus
  • General "wear and tear" on joints
The Symptoms

Regardless of the type of arthritis, the common symptoms for all arthritis disorders include:

  • Joint pain
  • Joint swelling
  • Reduced ability to move the joint
  • Warmth around a joint
  • Redness of the skin around a joint
  • Stiffness, especially in the morning
The Cure

Usually, the treatment depends on the type of the arthritis. Treatments available include physical therapy, paraffin wax dips, anti-inflammatory medications, immune-altering medications, splinting, cold-pack application, and surgical operations. The safest and best cure for Arthritis is yoga. The slow, controlled physical movement of joints is supportive for Arthritis patients. It improves the blood circulation in joints, removing unwanted toxins and other waste products.

Yoga as The Cure for Arthritis at World Yoga Society
